circle back spends a weekend together IRL
It’s safe to say circle back has dreamed of and even gone as far as reserving dates for all sorts of get togethers from an extravagant week-long trip in Oaxaca, to a humble writers retreat on the Hudson. The reality is that making plans across state lines, with competing transportation options AND with so-called busy schedules, is HARD. This was in fact the problem that in many ways was the impetus of circle back.1
Despite the roadblocks circle back did get together in the lower Hudson region just in time for peeping season, too. We shared belly laughs and Storm King strolls and while we had many plans to bang out a few circle backs, we ultimately decided to keep you on your toes. 2
Before we get a frenzy of text messages asking us for our expert itinerary and ~recommendations~ Here is what we did:
An Afternoon in Beacon - from art to beer, it was a classic Beacon afternoon
Acquire coffee from local roastery Big Mouth (peep their cutie hippo logo! The boyz both bought goodies to rep)
Get cultured at DIA Beacon. Contemporary art is nuanced, that’s why Sylvie recommends bringing two art-loving friends who will refer to artists by their first name and immediately know who they’re talking about. That’s #couplegoals. (shout out to Louis Bourgeois and Maya Lin, our art idols of the weekend and names of our future pets.)
Drive the Taconic Parkway and peep some leaves!
Drink up at Hudson Valley Brewery, a local spot offering all beers sour, sweet, and hoppy. (Don’t miss the amazing looking pizzas served from the tiniest pizza oven situated inside a truck.)
The Eats - 10/10 recommend inviting someone who loves more than anything to be in the kitchen
Chef Noah served up some impressive beet risotto made using golden beets from Matt and SF’s CSA
Endless salads and slaws were improvised with IC’s guidance using the remainder of our farm shares
Of course a cheese board with SARDINES had to be devoured
Slice and bake cookie dough à la mode courtesy of Poppy’s, Brooklyn
How to cure a homie hangover (here’s how we’re coping)
Something SILLY - Buy the games (ANOMIA, and GHOST BLITZ ) that you played
Something SERIOUS - Cook the foods that you didn’t have enough meals (or time) to enjoy
Something FUN - muse about upgrading your home decor to match your weekend digs. For us, it’s fantasizing about adopting the fantastical aesthetic of modern Italian design of the 1960’s and 70’s.
Something JUICY - Buy a wine you enjoyed together
Something MANIC - Maybe take some of the ...special… snacks you bought for the occasion
Something SMART - GET ANOTHER DATE IN THE BOOKS
Reminder: circle back was born out of a wonderfully permanent long distance friendship
we know it’s been awhile since you last heard from us… we’ll address that next time (maybe).
